Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
FAMILLE CORRE-MACQUIN
This estate was founded by Albert Macquin (1852-1911) who studied viticulture at Paris-Grignon and Montpellier, and became a specialist in grafting and root stocks. Saint-Emilion can be grateful to him for introducing grafted vines, which saved the vineyards from ruin by phylloxera in the late XVIIII century.
A STORY
In few words
Owned by the Corre-Macquin family, the vineyard has a prime location atop the Saint-Emilion plateau above the limestone ledge at the foot of the slope. Facing westward, opposite the medieval town, Pavie Maquin overlooks the small Fongaban Valley.
The clay-limestone soil provides superb natural drainage and a regular water supply. The high concentration of clay results in generous, powerful, and fresh wines.
One of Saint-Emilion’s flagship estates, Pavie Macquin combines traditional methods in the vineyard and cellar as well as a selection of modern techniques.
