Château Pape Clément

Pessac-Léognan

BERNARD MAGREZ

“Seven centuries of history for a legendary wine”

A STORY

In a few words

Château Pape Clément is a Graves great growth in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Built on an outstanding soil, the estate is the culmination of history, passion and hard work. Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest Bordeaux great growths. In 2022, the estate celebrated its 770th harvest.

The history of Château Pape Clément is marked by the man who bequeathed it his name and made its wine an icon: Bertrand de Goth (1264-1314) who became Pope Clément V. A lover of the land and already turned towards innovation, he contributed to the development of “modern” winegrowing in the 13th century and was one of the first to plant vines in rows, facilitating harvests and vineyard operations.

Seven centuries later, Bernard Magrez took over the estate and is still cultivating this pioneering spirit. Thanks to hard work, constantly challenging practices, the combination of tradition and innovation and a remarkable terroir, Château Pape Clément is now a Graves great growth which continues to surprise each year with its outstanding wines
