Mouton Rothschild has achieved its status thanks to two outstanding personalities, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988) and later his daughter Baroness Philippine (1933-2014). The estate is a work of art and beauty, featuring a strikingly spectacular large cellar, a magnificent vat room inaugurated in 2013 and its famous Museum of Wine in Art. The latter displays two millennia of works relating to vine and wine, as well as the unique and unmissable “Art et l’Étiquette” (“Art and Wine Labels”) exhibition, bringing together all the works created by the most famous contemporary artists (including Miró, Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Tàpies, Francis Bacon, Dalí, Balthus, and Jeff Koons) to illustrate the labels of this fine wine since 1945.
Today, Mouton Rothschild is owned by Baronne Philippine de Rothschild’s three children: Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild. Faithful to the efforts of their grandfather and mother, all three are dedicated to following Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s motto, “Live for the vine”, by being there in good and bad times, serving the vineyard with skill and craft, and honouring it with art.
