The estate is bordered to the north by Château Pétrus, and is only separated from Cheval Blanc to the south (in the Saint-Emilion appellation) by a country road. The estate was developed in the XVIII century by the Léglise family and renamed L’Evangile at the turn of the 19th century.
In 1862, L’Evangile was acquired by Paul Chaperon, and later inherited by the Ducasse family who owned the estate until 1990, when it was purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). Their first manifestation of their influence was a more rigorous selection for the first wine and the creation of a second wine, Blason de l’Evangile. Plans to renovate the vat room and cellar were completed in 2004. These efforts have been conducive to a decade of remarkable vintages. Managed by a young and rigorous technical team, Château L’Evangile wines stand out for their precision, freshness and balance, which serve as a testimony to their exceptional terroir.
