Château La Tour Blanche
Sauternes & Barsac
CONSEIL REGIONAL DE NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE
Founded in the XVII century, Château La Tour Blanche is located in the village of Bommes in the heart of the prestigious Sauternes appellation.
A STORY
In few words
Several famous figures were closely linked with the history of the estate, such as Louis Pasteur, Ulysse Gayon and Frederic Focke, the latter catapulting the château to first place in the list of Sauternes first growths in the 1855 classification. The last private owner, Daniel Iffla, also known as “Osiris”, the biggest patron of the 19th century and a philanthropist, decided to leave Château La Tour Blanche to the French government on the condition that a tuition-free School of Viticulture and Oenology be created there.
With its unusual history, now belonging to the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the château benefits from ideal sun exposure with a magnificent terroir overlooking the Ciron River (a tributary of the Garonne), responsible for the unique microclimate conducive to the development of the famous “noble rot.
La Tour Blanche is committed to an ambitious environmental strategy, which has led it to obtain organic certification. Run by professionals, it also benefits from rigorous management to preserve its outstanding landscape while expressing its magical terroir. Producing modern wines characterised by a perfect balance between concentration and freshness, the château is actively involved in the Sauternes revival and is developing a wine tourism offer to pass on its enthusiasm for Sauternes to others. With its unique history and dynamic approach, Château La Tour Blanche is an institution to (re)discover among the first growth Sauternes estates. At the head
