The estate’s 82 hectares of vines are planted on a single block atop a rise composed of Garonne gravel from the Quaternary Period, and have remained unchanged since the estate’s ranking in the 1855 classification.
After taking over Château Gruaud Larose in 1997, the Merlaut family undertook a profound restructuring of the vineyards and returned the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety to its former glory. Restoring balance in the ecosystem is a key priority that allows the terroir to fully express itself. Biodiversity is thus a core concern and dedicated teams manage the vineyard using agronomic methods that fully respect the environment and biodynamic principles.
The estate has been organically certified since August 2022.
Château Gruaud Larose wines are renowned for their finesse and elegance, reflecting the richness of the estate’s great terroir. Château Gruaud Larose is undoubtedly the “the Wine of Kings and the King of Wines”.
