Château du Tertre
Margaux
Located on one of the highest and most beautiful gravelly rises in the Margaux appellation, Château du Tertre was created in the XVIII century by an important Irish merchant, Pierre Mitchell, who fell in love with the Bordeaux region and its wines.
A STORY
In few words
The founder of the first glassworks in Bordeaux, this refined, innovative man realised one of his fondest dreams by establishing his own fine wine estate. Other famous families followed in his footsteps, including the Koenigswarters and rich bankers close to Emperor Napoleon III. The quality of the wine was such that it was included among the Margaux great growths in the 1855 classification.
Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the estate in 1997 and, thanks to major investments and a clever mix between tradition and innovation, he restored Château du Tertre to its former glory.
In March 2021, the Helfrich family opened a new chapter in Château du Tertre’s history and have been devoted to ensuring the longevity of this magnificent estate ever since.
