The château’s reputation dates back to François Villon who cited it in a poem that appears on the bottle label.
Ideally located a stone’s throw from the medieval town of Saint-Emilion, atop a slope on a clay-limestone plateau, the charming vineyard is currently owned by Jacques Capdemourlin and benefits from a superb terroir.
The wine is fermented using traditional methods and aged in oak barrels, half of which are new every year. Combining respect for the terroir, tradition, and the best of modern techniques, Balestard La Tonnelle produces full-bodied wines of extreme elegance, and one of the finest great growths in Saint-Emilion.
