Since the estate was created in the early 17th century by Gabriel du Vigneau, there have been many generations of owners. The most famous was Madame de Rayne, born Catherine de Pontac, who acquired the estate in 1834.
It is thanks to this particularly dynamic woman that the estate was promoted to Sauternes first classified great growth status during the famous 1855 classification and was crowned the best wine in the world in 1867.
Château de Rayne Vigneau benefits from an exceptional terroir, combining grey clay and asteriated limestone soil typical of the region. The semi-precious stones it contains contribute to the excellence of Rayne Vigneau.
